Silentium researches through use of reportage, the life in the monastery of Mount Saint Bernard, in Leichestershire, England. Cistercian is a religious order that follow the “Rule of Saint Benedict”, written by Benedict of Nursia and it is for those monks who live under the autority of an abbot, their motto is “ora et labora” (pray and work). This order was born for giving to the monks a poorer way of living, dividing them from the catholic benefices that were common during middle age.
My project want to analyse importance of silence in the religious spaces, I focus on the architectural side photographing”how silence fills physical space“. Silence is indeed used as bridge for connecting the monk and Divine. This practice is largely used by all monks in order to listen the unlistenable. Can absence of noise be a celestial medium for investigating the invisible?
